    Ten years ago Maria Hines opened Tilth — the groundbreaking, New American destination restaurant that was the second certified organic restaurant in the country. It quickly became nationally known, earning Maria a James Beard Award Best Chef Northwest along the way. Celebrate this Seattle culinary treasure with a 10-course Anniversary Dinner with wine pairings, September 1st or 2nd.

    Since its opening in September 2006, Tilth has upheld its commitment to serving certified organic, brightly-flavored New American fare and supporting local business along the way. The restaurant, in its first ten years, has received an abundance of rave reviews and accolades including the James Beard Award previously mentioned, being named one of the top 10 restaurants in the nation by Frank Bruni, food critic of the New York Times and appearances by Maria on Top Chef Masters, Martha Stewart and Iron Chef (she won!).

    Seattle Met captures the journey, achievements and more, writing of Tilth, “the revolution it helped ignite has changed things forever.” As Maria’s first restaurant, it propelled the farm-to-table movement in the northwest by highlighting important, local purveyors including farms, ranches and fishing vessels.

    Noted for calling out purveyors by name on the menu since the early days, the 10th Anniversary Menu is no exception. The 10-course menu features many of the long-time purveyors including King’s Garden Summer Melon Salad, Loki Seafood Salmon a la Plancha and Skagit River Ranch Braised Pork Belly.

    Sip and savor while reminiscing through a 15-page scrapbook profiling some of the producers that helped build Tilth’s outstanding first decade. It also showcases the most requested recipe, dishes that were staff favorites but just didn’t take in the dining room, and more!

  • Volterra Restaurant Celebrates the First Decade of its Enduring Italian Love Affair 04.07.15

    What started as a romantic travel destination in 2002, a home in 2004 and the site of their wedding, the Old World town of Volterra, Italy became a love affair that Michelle Quisenberry and chef Don Curtiss brought home as their namesake inspiration for the Italian restaurant they opened in April 2005 in Ballard. Ten years later, the popular Volterra restaurant is hosting an anniversary celebration on April 15 (sold out) and April 16 (tickets still available) and offering ways to celebrate all year long.

    2015 Volterra Favorites Menu

    In addition to the April events, from April 24 through the rest of 2015, the restaurant will offer a Volterra Favorites Tasting Menu, a four-course menu full of popular options for $45 featuring the seasonal favorites of the last 10 years. Many of these dishes have great stories behind them – all of which are shared on the menu. Items include:

    First Course: Choice of Oil Soup (Cannellini bean and smoked pork jowl soup with a generous drizzling of Tuscan olive oil), Polenta with Wild mushrooms, or Mussels and Sausage.

    Second Course: Choice of Caesar salad or Pork Jowls and Wild Mushrooms (created for Quisenberry and Curtiss’ rehearsal dinner).

    Third Course: Choice of Wild Boar Tenderloin with Gorgonzola Mustard Sauce (Curtiss’ signature dish), Beef Tenderloin draped in Lardo with Chianti Demiglaze, Crispy Herb Chicken, Roasted Eggplant Pouches (a favorite of vegetarian and non-vegetarians), or Seafood Baked in Parchment.

    Dessert: Choice of Tuscan Chestnut Honey Panna Cotta, Tiramisu (Don’s adaptation of the Italian classic), or Molten Dark Chocolate Cake with D’Ambrosio vanilla gelato.

    Volterra Memories

    Quisenberry and Curtiss’ shared enthusiasm for Volterra, Italy has also prompted many of their Seattle guests to travel to this enchanted city over the years.
