• Shanik’s New Head Turning Menu Item 01.22.14

    Shanik, the modern Indian restaurant in South Lake Union, just launched their new menu and it’s already grabbing attention.

    The brainchild of chef Meeru Dhalwala (also of Vij’s and Rangoli in Vancouver BC), the new menu boasts Turmeric and Ginger Sautéed Cauliflower, Grilled Venison Medallions on Tamarind and Date Purée, and Beet Bites with Candied Walnuts, to name a few. Displaying her dedication to food being nutritious and sustainable, Meeru also developed Roasted, Ground Cricket Paranta. A delicious dish served with spicy tomato chutney, the crickets are actually very high in protein and iron, as well as being a sustainable food source – Did we also mention delicious?! As Meeru says, “Cows and pigs are the S.U.V.’s; bugs are the bicycles.”
